Product Description
This is a vinyl LP pressing of Big Fun by Miles Davis, originally released in 1974. It showcases music from three different phases of Davis's early - seventies 'electric' era. Sides one and four ('Great Expectations' and 'Lonely Fire'), recorded three months after the Bitches Brew sessions, feature Indian instruments like sitar, tambura, and tabla. Davis plays his trumpet with the Harmon mute for the first time since his electric period began, giving it a sitar - like sound. This creates a clear and lean sound, emphasizing high and low registers, unlike Bitches Brew's busier middle - and low - register focus. 'Ife', recorded after the 1972 On the Corner sessions, has a drum and electric bass groove with many musicians improvising over a hypnotic bassline. 'Go Ahead John', an outtake from Davis's Jack Johnson sessions recorded in March 1970, is riff and groove - based, with a relatively sparse lineup of Steve Grossman on soprano saxophone, Dave Holland on bass, Jack DeJohnette on drums, and John McLaughlin on guitar with a wah - wah pedal. Label: Music On Vinyl. Release Year: 2016. Track List: 1. Great Expectations 2. Ife 3. Go Ahead John 4. Lonely Fire
